October 2009 Game of the Month

Game of the Month Logo

October 2009 was a great month for gamers as each platform had solid releases. With so many popular titles being released, our staff chimes in with their picks for the October 2009 Game of the Month.

Greg’s Pick – My pick? Drum roll please… you guessed it, Dirt 2. Who cares that it shipped in early-September, it still kicks “A” a month later!Dirt 2 delivers on all levels.

Why?

Because it delivers on all levels. Rally and road events that are diverse and challenging… aggressive multi-car solo races… beautiful AI, game play and menu systems…

Dirt 2 delivers on all levels.

Powered by a third generation revved-up gaming engine, featuring some of the most diverse rally locations and showcasing some of the best visuals I’ve seen, may I be so bold as to give Dirt 2 a 10 out of 10? Yes, I may. And I will. The only aspect missing from this game is the dirt and grit from actually being on the course… [Full Review] [Buy from Amazon]

Abe’s PickUncharted 2: Among Thieves is where it’s all at.  Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was my original #1 PS3 game to own, but now I’m going to have to bump it down to #2…

Why?Uncharted_2_Cover

This game packs in the whole kit and cabootle.  You get action, adventure, comedy, romance, betrayal, and a whole lot of “Oh crap…” moments.  Graphics are amazing as is the voice acting, and the musical score is top notch.  And if the amazing single-player campaign wasn’t enough, you can hop online and do some co-op or multiplayer matches.  On top of that, you also get a hand gun that fires shot gun shells.

This game is the reason my Xbox 360 hasn’t seen much action the past month – looks like I’ll be splitting time between Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It’s tough being a gamer.

Jenn’s Pick – I’m totally copying Abe and going with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Why?

The story is made of pure awesome. I love how the characters drive the story, how you come to care for them and what they’re going through. It’s a great every-man adventure story, filled with mystery and excitement. (That and Nate, despite being a pixel, ain’t that bad to look at. Mmm…)

If you have a PS3 and don’t own this game, you’re doing yourself a great disservice. If you’re on the fence about owning the Sony console, Uncharted 2 is the reason to buy it! [Full Review]

Jeff’s Pick – Surprise, surprise. It’s Unch–I mean–Borderlands.

Why?

Because it’s fun. No really, if you’re an FPS fan, you’ll like it. If you’re an RPG fan, you’ll like it. If you like tons of guns that will make an enemies head explode, you’ll like it. It’s fun, it’s quirky, but most of all, it’s a co-op version of Fallout 3. [Full Review]
