November 2009 Game of the Month

Game of the Month Logo

Many gamers have been looking forward to November, and looking over the list of games that were released, you can’t blame them.  No matter what your gaming platform is or your genre of choice, November seemed to have a little something for everyone.  Check out which games the Level Up News staff chose as their favorites for the month of November.

Abe’s Pick – BOOM! Headshot!  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Why?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2was one of the most hyped up and highly anticipated games of 2009, and boy did it deliver.  The single player campaign was a bit short but still thrilling, the new Spec-Ops mode gives gamers some addicting co-op love, and the competitive multiplayer is top notch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gives gamers one of the best and most enjoyable FPS packages to date.

Jenn’s Pick – My latest obsession! Dragon Age: Originsdragon_age-1

Why?

What happens when you combine Baulders Gate with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? You get a beautiful, dark fantasy story about treachery, deception, magic, and honor.

Dragon Age: Origins is quite possibly the best RPG I’ve played in a long, long time. The characters are dynamic, the worlds beautiful, and the game play fantastic. If you’re looking for an excellent fantasy RPG that isn’t “final”, Dragon Age: Origins is it. I’m already on my forth play-through (there’re six different origin stories, and dang it, I wanna play them all!), have bought both tie-in novels, and I’m pretty sure will continue to play this game until at least January 26th.

Joey’s Pick – Mario’s Best Adventure Yet! New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Why?

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is just another reason why everybody should own a Nintendo Wii. Brilliantly designed and now with a new multiplayer mode allowing you to play with up to four other people. Not only would I say that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the best platformer available, but quite possibly the best Mario game available at this point in time. Definitely a 5 star game that the whole family can enjoy.

Greg’s Pick – Piece de resistance! Auditorium for iPhone

Why?auditorium_splash

Auditorium from EA Mobile is a puzzle / game / addicting celebration of music, light and color. Players start off on level one “Hajimemashite” or ‘Hello, I am pleased to make your acquaintance” in Japanese. And yes, I was pleased to make this game’s acquaintance as my thumbs mustered up a show that any composer or 80’s hair band would be envious about. With Auditorium’s five acts and seven levels to play through, players will be both challenged and pleased with the difficult yet rewarding game play. The $2.99 price is definitely worth it.
