Straight from the “Wait… what did you say?” file comes the story that shocked most people on the internet today. Capcom, via the latest issue of Nintendo Power, has announced the next title in the original Mega Man series, Mega Man 10.
For those of you who are just joining us, Mega Man is Capcom’s staple series from the NES era. It has spawned seven series: the original, X, Zero, ZX, Legends, Battle Network (my personal favorite), and Star Force. The first game was launched on December 17, 1987 for the NES and since then there has been at least one Mega Man game per year, spanning 22 years.
In 2008, Capcom re-launched the original Mega Man series with Mega Man 9, for the WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, and Playstation Network, since 1997′s Mega Man 8. Instead of featuring crisp 3D type graphics, the game designers at Inti Creates decided to go backwards and make a brand new, NES quality game in full 8-bit, graphics, sounds, even a mode to restore graphical errors as if it was being played on an NES.
Now it seems that the Blue Bomber is back in his latest adventure, and for now seems to be only available for the WiiWare. Mega Man 10 puts players back in the 8-bit adventures as Mega Man has to do what he does best, beat up eight Robot Masters in any particular order to save the day. However this time, Mega Man is actually looking for a vaccine to help cure a disease labeled as Robotenza. The new addition to Mega Man 10 is the fact you’ll be able to select your character before venturing off into the stages. You have Mega Man, of course, as well as his brother Proto Man and a third un-named character that is going to have fans guessing.
The issues of Nintendo Power‘s January edition, also their 250th issue, are already going in circulation, which means it’s also time to renew mine as well. Subscribers get their issue with the cover art of Mega Man 10 which looks to be done again by I am 8-bit, who worked on the last one. For non-subscribers, you get just a generic cover with a little blurb on the top talking about Mega Man 10. Again, this is only scheduled for the WiiWare. Time will tell if it is released for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network like the previous title. If it is, I demand Xbox Avatar outfits.
