The Scoop: Infamous is a Playstation only game created by Sucker Punch Productions, whom if you don’t already know, are the guys that created the Sly Cooper series of video games back on the Playstation 2. Now already with some success under their belts, Sucker Punch Productions decided to take there skills to the next-generation consoles, and what a great idea it was. Infamous might just be the best superhero video game created thus far.

The Setup:You take on the role as Cole MacGrath, a messenger boy who happens to be delivering a package that contains a device called the Ray Sphere. Instructed to open the package, the Ray Sphere detonates and wipes out six city blocks. Amongst the rubble and dead bodies, Cole remains alive… but different from the others. While progressing in the game, you take on the role of either the hero or the villain and gain new powers along the way.

What’s Hot:So much is present in this game that makes it one of the more dominant Playstation 3 titles to own and one of the best superhero games available.

  • Story: Though the story isn’t that to the stature of Casablanca or anything, it’s very original from what past superhero games have brought us. Infamoussets us in the shoes of a fresh new face, and unlike most superheroes, we’re not trying to hide our identity which relieves us of the goofy spandex uniforms that you’ll often see superheroes wearing. The cutscenes are also very unique and fun to watch, as they are told in a comic book fashion in mostly still screens instead of motion capture.
  • Gameplay: The gameplay here is flawless. It has that Assassin’s Creed style of gaming going on, to where you can grab just about anything and everything in arms length. You can climb buildings from the ground up really giving this game some extra playability considering there is no means of transportation besides on foot or from rooftop-to-rooftop. Attacking your enemies also feels great as you can unleash massive combos amongst your foes leaving them flipping through the air.
  • Power-Ups: There’s tons of power-ups available in Infamous giving you different capabilities from absorbing more electricity, gliding and some thunderous attacks.

What’s Not: While Infamousremains as my favorite superhero title available for the Playstation 3, it still has it’s flaws that hold it back from being a perfect game.

  • Graphical Errors: While this game is massive, it’s expected that there will be some pop-ins and some framerate issues which you might experience, especially depending on how much is going on in the surrounding areas of the game as it mainly occurs during the high velocity action scenes.
  • Lack Of Storytelling: This is a great game, but there was times where I wasn’t fooled at all by the story. In other words, I wasn’t really that convinced at what was going on. Whether it was lack of storytelling or a lackluster cast, I found myself having more fun in Infamous more so then getting involved in the story.
  • Lack Of Multiplayer: While it would have been awesome, there is no multiplayer in Infamous. While I’m not big into multiplayer, I must admit that I was a little let down at the loss of multiplayer in this game.

Final Verdict:I’d definitly recommend Infamous to any Playstation 3 owner who is into action games as this game gives loads of it, and done very well I might add for a Teen game. I definitly look forward to a possible sequel and possibly a decent multiplayer. Thanks Sucker Punch!

Both my brother-in-law and I picked this game up during the Black Friday sales and neither of us have been disappointed! I have yet to finish it but I’m totally enjoying it. Thanks for the review man!

i agree on the story isn’t quite there to be the dominante part of the game but something about jumping off a 30 story building and landing in a pack of people on the street with such force it clears a circle around u of everything just makes it fun to be the bad guy
